On September 14, six PebbleCreek hikers braved late summer heat on a nine mile hike to find an arch in the Big Horn Wilderness northwest of Tonopah, just a few miles north of the busy rest area you may have seen on I-10 near exit 81. The hike consisted of a combination of trails and bushwhacking through washes and desert terrain to an interesting arch which was a conglomeration of dirt and rocks rather than the more typical solid rock arch. The arch was golden because of the highlighting from early morning sun and because it was right next to the old Gold Bullion Mine which produced gold and copper in the early 1900s. The club conducts interesting hikes five days a week for almost every level of fitness; meetings are held in the Tuscany Ballroom on the third Thursday of the month. Visit the club’s website at PCHikers.org for more information and pictures.
