General Manager’s Message

With news of more and more people being vaccinated and the recent approval of the single-dose vaccine from Johnson and Johnson, there seems to be light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel. This news, along with the beautiful weather we enjoy at this time of year, has me feeling more upbeat; I hope you do too. In my message this month, I want to talk about the recent vaccination survey we did and the vaccine clinics we held.

In a PebbleNews Extra a few weeks ago, the HOA Communications team asked homeowners to take an online survey to help assess how many homeowners had been able to receive COVID-19 vaccinations and how many were still searching for appointments. We received 2,611 responses and learned more about our community. The following are a few highlights of the survey’s findings:

* What is your age?

28% were 75+, 48% were 65 to 74, and 24% were under 65

* Have you received a COVID-19 vaccination shot?

71% of those responding had received a shot. 41% of those responding in the affirmative to this question had received both shots, while 57% had received one shot and were scheduled for the second. Only 2% had one shot but needed to get scheduled for the second shot.

Based on this survey, we recognize that there may still be a role to play in assisting homeowners to get vaccinated. We will be reaching out to those who requested help. If you have not been able to obtain an appointment and would like to be added to our notification list, please email [email protected]. Our staff cannot get you the appointment, but we can communicate the resources we know of. We thank those who responded to the survey so that we could obtain greater insight into our community.

I would also like to thank our Activities Team for their efforts in coordinating the two vaccine clinics held on site. Patti Wegehaupt coordinated a team of incredible volunteers who took appointments and then ran the clinics with great precision. Thank you to all who volunteered! Although opportunities were limited, based on what Safeway could obtain, we did help a good many homeowners who needed it. Thanks also to Traci Baker, our director of activities, for coordinating the efforts with Safeway, as well as working with a representative from Maricopa County to communicate vaccination opportunities that opened in the area.

Finally, I want to share my sincere thanks for all the support this community has given me, our staff, and fellow community members during this time. It was one year ago this month that COVID-19 changed our lives. The last year has been trying, and we still need to remain safe. I am optimistic that we are nearing the finish line.
