Reach for your White Tank Mountains Field Guide when you want to identify native plants or animals. Local Waddell historian and author Karen Krause recently published the pocket guide and has generously donated all proceeds to benefit the White Tank Mountains Conservancy.
Bob Bement, executive vice president and chief nuclear officer at Palo Verde Generating Station for Arizona Public Service Company (APS), facilitated a $6,647 grant from APS to cover Initial printing costs.
The 100+ page field guide contains 120 beautiful color photographs and short descriptions of the most common species of plants and animals that visitors may encounter in our regional parks.
Sale of the guide has launched a book signing on November 24 at the White Tank Library and now can be purchased online at https://www.wtmconservancy.org/wtm-field-guide for $10 plus $5 shipping or at WTMC outreach events.
Sales at the White Tank Mountains Regional Park Nature Center are coming soon. Be sure to ask when visiting.
Though sold in hard copy only for now, Krause has big plans for an interactive, digital version of the guide which will include bird and animal sounds as well as links to other pertinent information.
The proceeds from the book will contribute to the long-term conservation of the cultural and natural resources of the White Tanks and to the experience of mountain visitors.
