Extruded clay projects class hits new heights

Jeff Wilson

A clay extruder is a tool that makes clay into a variety of shapes both solid and hollow that can be used to make a variety of functional, sculptural and decorative objects.

Although many of the students in this class have never had a clay class before, their projects were complex, sophisticated and beautiful.

Projects included a three-level vase with applied embellishments of birds, fish or flowers, coffee mugs with handles and embellishments, rain sticks (hollow tubes filled with clay shards that sound like rain when tipped back and forth) and large coil pots.

The extruder used by the club was an anonymous gift from a very generous club member.

Extruded Clay pottery is offered every other month throughout the year.

Come to the pottery room display windows to see examples of extruded clay projects as well as projects from other pottery club sponsored classes.

Sign-up sheets for all pottery, sculpture, floral design and non-objective abstract painting classes are in the Expressions Gallery in the Creative Arts Center each month.
