Democratic Club hosts Meet the Candidates night

Roger Race and Robert Conley

The PebbleCreek Democratic Club held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. The meeting was preceded by our very popular social hour and cash bar beginning at 6:00 p.m., which has helped our many new members become acquainted with our longstanding members.

It is the political season and this year there is a Special Election to fill the seat vacated by Republican Trent Franks in addition to the campaigns running up to the 2018 election in November. The two Democratic candidates running in the February 27th Special Primary Election are Dr. Hiral Tipirneni and Brianna Westbrook, both of whom were invited to speak before the membership. Brianna Westbrook was unable to attend.

Elaborating further on Dr. Hiral Tipirneni, she spoke at length about her experience and qualifications and discussed her positions on several timely and important issues. Furthermore, she gave a moving speech covering many points which are available on her website, www.hiralforcongress.com. She reviewed some of the following points? (1) Health Care, (2) Economy, (3) Retirement Security and Veterans, (4) Education, (5) Government Accountability, (6) Immigration and Border Security, (7) 2nd Amendment Rights, and (8) Women’s Reproductive Rights. The audience gave Dr. Tipirneni a standing ovation, recognizing her as an exemplary candidate to fill the seat vacated by Trent Franks.

In addition, Bill Mundell and Sandra Kennedy, candidates for the AZ Corporation Commission, were scheduled to speak. Unfortunately, Mr. Mundell cancelled because of a family emergency and has been rescheduled for our March 7 meeting which will be held at the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.

You may recall that Ms. Kennedy served on the Corporation Commission from 2009 until 2013, but later lost her bid for re-election. In the four years since Ms. Kennedy served, the Commission has become embroiled in charges of corruption and pay-offs. She is dedicated to representing the public and restoring the reputation of the Commission.

At our meeting, Sandra gave a very lively speech and was well received by the audience. She was very candid and seemed to really connect with the members at the meeting. If you’re concerned about the monthly bill you receive from Arizona Public Service, then I would certainly consider voting for Sandra Kennedy.

The Business portion of the meeting was followed with a review of social events planned over the upcoming months. Janet Race covered the following events:

* An inaugural new member welcome event held on Friday, February 2nd,

* Cirque Du Soleil – On Ice Show, Sunday, March 11th,

* What a Night – Jersey Boys Meet Mama Mia, Saturday, March 31st, and

* Spring Pot Luck Luncheon and Estrella Culinary Institute in April.
