The cooler temperatures are arriving now, but it was not so long ago that we well remember the long, hot summer of 2017. Many ladies in the PCLGA golfed regularly on Tuesdays through the heat these past four months. During this period we experienced a record-breaking 122 degrees on June 20.

On the Friday prior to this especially hot summer day, a group of 18-hole golfers were discussing the upcoming high temperature. One of the ladies suggested that it would be a good idea to provide ice-cold towels for the players on the golf course. Another lady volunteered a package of her gold, microfiber towels and another lady offered her large-sized cooler. A great idea was born!

The ice-cold towels were so appreciated and well received by everyone; it was decided to provide these towels every Tuesday when temperatures were predicted over 100 degrees.

The original towels were returned and the PCLGA purchased their own towels. Valerie Bobigian volunteered every week to collect the towels, launder them, and roll them before placing in the cooler. The cooler was placed somewhere on the golf course where the players would pass at least two times.

The PCLGA averaged over 47 players each Tuesday since the beginning of June. Most players truly appreciated the idea of having ice-cold towels to help keep them cool on those long, hot summer days.

Thanks to Valerie and the other ladies that participated in the effort to provide cool relief for the PCLGA players!
