Bocce organizers prepare for banner year

The 2018-2019 Bocce season will begin on Tuesday, September 25, signaling the start of another exciting year of competition that will peak with a festive celebration marking the PebbleCreek Bocce Association’s 20th Anniversary on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom. Further details about the event and the history of how the Bocce Association grew over the years into one of the community’s most popular activities will be shared in future editions of the PebbleCreek Post.

Meanwhile, throughout the summer there has been a steady stream of registration forms being delivered in person and by mail to the Tuscany Falls home of Mollie McErlean, PebbleCreek Bocce Association’s treasurer and team registrar.

The process of setting up and scheduling teams for the fall 2018 season’s four leagues has been underway since the spring season ended in May. So far, the popular Thursday Night League has reached its maximum number of 16 teams, but there still is a small window of opportunity for last minute registrants to sign up to play on teams in the Tuesday Night League and the Wednesday and Friday Day Leagues.

Registration forms can be delivered to Mollie up to September 2. She can be contacted at 623-935-2822 or at [email protected]. Final, in person registrations will be accepted on Tuesday, September 4 and Wednesday, September 5 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the kiosk in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse. Registration fee is $20 per league per year. The $20 covers the fall, winter and spring seasons.

Due to HOA regulations that require lights at the Eagle’s Nest Bocce Complex be turned off by 10:00 p.m., there can be only one tier of competition scheduled in the Night Leagues, limiting the total number of teams to 16 each night. Up to 32 teams can be scheduled each day, due to the ability to schedule two tiers of competition.

The pre-season Captain’s Meeting will be held on Friday, September 21 at 9:00 a.m. in the Chianti Room at Tuscany Falls Clubhouse.

A Bocce clinic for all new players, as well as returning players, will be held on Monday, September 24 at 9:00 a.m. at the Bocce Complex. Carol Gwilt, the PebbleCreek Bocce Association Statistician, will conduct the clinic. Rules will be reviewed, but the clinic will focus primarily on the fundamentals of playing the game.
