Bocce news

I took this team photo during the winter league and lost their information, but they all look happy, and their smiles say “Have a happy bocce day.” Mystery team, enjoy your month of fame and let me know who you are.

Lets’ see what’s new in the bocce world. It snowed last night, and it was five degrees in the Artic. It’s hot people, but that’s not new for September. Soon, the snowbirds will be flying home, and there is only one month until bocce starts again on Oct. 1.

Remember when you were a kid and counted the days until school was over for the summer? Well, here we are again counting days until bocce and cooler weather hits the courts. Now’s a good time to write a reminder on your calendars to reserve the courts for practice. Remember, the day of play is when you warm up, and all the other days you’re at the courts and play—that’s practice. To reserve the EN courts, sign up in the book on the counter in the EN sports complex building, next to the bocce courts.

The calendar for the 2019/20 league sessions is available at the clubhouses, the PebbleCreek Post and online at the PC website. It is also in the glass case at the EN Sports Complex building. There will be a bocce clinic held on Monday, September 23, at 9:00 a.m. at the bocce courts. Please contact Carol Gwilt, 623-536-1420, to sign up. This clinic is for all players that want to hone up their bocce skill. New or seasoned players, you’re all welcome.

IMPORTANT FYI: When you do come down to practice only bocce league members are allowed to open the shed and use the practice balls for play. The balls and all the equipment on the rolling carts are for League Game Days and Nights play only. If you come to play with friends or family, it would be appreciated if you would bring a set of bocce balls with you or you can rent them from the Activity Center. Their hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Replacing bocce balls are a necessity due to wear and tear and they are costly to replace.

Please remember to use the removable boards if you have to. These removable boards are to accommodate residents that have limited mobility. It allows them to proceed directly onto the courts without having to go over any type of barrier. We want the 2019-2020 bocce seasons to be injury free.

NOTE: Early registration has ended. Regular registration will be Tuesday, September 3 and 4, 2019, at the EN Clubhouse Kiosk. Current teams, players looking to start their own teams and all the newbies that would love to try their hand at playing bocce, now is the time to make a decision. Tuesday and Thursday nights are filling up fast. Wednesday and Friday days would be a great way to start off your mornings. If interested call Angela Petter, Registrar, at 623-215-3146.

Wishing all of you the safest of travel coming home to PebbleCreek. See you on the courts.
