Award winning artist teaches colored pencil workshop

Charlene Romanos

On four Saturdays in September, artists from the PebbleCreek Art Club attended classes from award winning colored pencil artist, Barbara Dahlstedt—a favorite instructor of club artists. The subject was a portrait study of Jocelyn for which Barbara’s original painting received several awards.

The class was designed for intermediate and advanced artists to learn the techniques to achieve realistic results in portrait painting and study the “grisaille” technique developed by Renaissance artists to show how light and shadow are replicated on a form. Barbara shared her expertise through step-by-step instruction and individual assistance that enabled each student to learn and complete a portrait of Jocelyn. Barbara is a favorite of PebbleCreek artists and has instructed many classes here in PebbleCreek and plans to offer additional classes in 2020.
