Alzheimer’s Association news

Teri Sellers

The next meeting of the Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group will be held on Aug. 17.

This is a group dedicated to the education and support of those PebbleCreek residents who have a loved one with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.

A World Without Alzheimer’s Disease®

Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

The special presenter for August is Stephanie Schulte. She is the walk manager for the West Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This year, the West Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Oct. 12, at the Beardsley Recreation Center in Sun City West. The Alzheimer’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter has 11 walks throughout Arizona and Las Vegas.

This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease! While there is no fee to register, we encourage participants to fundraise in order to contribute to the cause and raise awareness.

When people participate in the walk, their fundraising dollars fuel our mission, and their participation in the event helps to raise the level of Alzheimer’s awareness in their community.

Stephanie will share how the funds raised benefit Arizonans and what the Desert Southwest Chapter does for us.

The PebbleCreek Alzheimer’s Support Group is open to residents who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementia.

Respite care

We may be able to provide free respite care for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia during the caregiver meeting so the caregiver has the opportunity and peace of mind to attend the discussion group. Please call me with your RSVP no later than Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Monthly breakfast

A more casual opportunity to meet and share with other caregivers takes place on the first Saturday of each month. We will meet at Eagle’s Nest for breakfast and just talk. Getting to know other caregivers can be very supportive and helpful as the journey of this disease can be challenging. RSVP is required by Aug. 1 for the Aug. 3 breakfast. For information or to RSVP for the breakfast and respite care, please call Teri Sellers at 602-793-0299 or email [email protected].
