All in the Family

PebbleCreek resident passes her skills to family

Parents and grandparents often want to pass on their wisdom and skills to the next generation. Sometimes the next generation wants to learn but often it is a grandparent that has the time, patience and inclination to teach.

Rosemary Vanasco’s grandson, Billy Chadwick, is 14 years old and saw his grandmother’s quilts she had created and wanted to make one for his mother. So, after a visit to a quilt store to find her favorite colors (turquoise and purple) and learning how to use rulers, rotary cutters and other techniques, Billy created a masculine-influenced, modern quilt of half-square triangles for his mother. Rosemary and Billy shared his product with the PebbleCreek Quilters that meet every second Monday of the month in the Creative Arts Center. Rosemary commented that she has four granddaughters that did not show an interest, so this project with her grandson was particularly fun. It encourages PebbleCreekers to look around and see who might learn from them whether it is wisdom or skills.
