All aboard the Grand Canyon train for the Rovin’ Pebbles

Jim East

Members of the Rovin’ Pebbles RV Club spent five days in the Williams/Flagstaff area of Arizona in early May. A storm moved through early in the week leaving a dusting of snow and cold temps. Our accommodations at Railside RV Park were top notch. Belgian waffles, a variety of cereals, hard-boiled eggs, orange juice and coffee greeted us each morning in the clubhouse. Happy hours were held inside a large tent with space heaters insuring a comfortable environment for enjoying the many appetizers provided by the members. Sitting around a large campfire topped off evenings. Many of our members took the Grand Canyon Railway train to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on Thursday, May 11. Other trips included the Riordan Mansion State Park, Bearizona and Route 66. After a fantastic group dinner at Agave Mexican Restaurant in Flagstaff, the group was going to go to the Lowell Observatory; however, dense clouds made viewing the sky through Lowell’s massive telescopes impossible. Maybe next time. On the final night wagonmasters hosted a BBQ featuring burgers, beans, hot dogs and all the fixins’. Around the campfire, cowboys serenaded the happy campers. After exploring the highways and byways over the summer, the club will have a “coming home” caravan, assembling in Colorado Springs in September. From there the wagonmasters will guide the groups to many attractions like Pike’s Peak, the Air Force Academy and the Olympic training village, then home via Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The Rovin’ Pebbles RV Club meets the first Wednesday of each month (October through May) at 3:00 p.m. in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. Come join the fun!
