PCM9GA – 4 Corners highlights

Erv Stein

With many of our PCM9GA snowbird members still widely dispersed and away from the now becoming more tolerable Arizona climate, well over 50 of our usually highly charged PCM9GA members teed off at our Eagle’s Nest front nine course, utilizing still another interesting tournament format entitled 4 Corners.

Utilizing this somewhat different 4 Corner format, each team member’s individual strokes for each hole were utilized to determine the net score for each hole; however, for holes one and nine, the three lowest team member net scores were utilized to compute the net team score and conversely for hole two through eight, the best two team member scores are utilized. Depending upon the prevailing team member AGA handicap, a handicap credit, often called a “Pop,” anywhere from zero strokes to two or more stroke credit was applied on all holes. Whenever handicap adjustments are part of the format, high handicap golfers often get richly rewarded since in many cases a PAR score could be adjusted to an Eagle, Double Eagle or perhaps a virtual hole-in-one. As in many of our events the competition is incredibly close and, for this event, only one stroke separated the first, second and third-place winning teams.

Kudos to the winning teams as follows:

First Place: Mike D’Onofrio, Richard Rodgers, John Craven, Greg McKenzie – 72

Second Place: Greg Ray, Brad Hedien, Jim Beyers, Dick Heidesch – 72

Third Place: Dennis Ridgeway, Dave Eckert, Clete Lipetzky, Dick Rippe – 73

Closest to Pin Winners were Monte Page and Jim Halbmaier

Our final and highly anticipated annual Summer Survival Tournament with all four PebbleCreek groups participating was just conducted on September 28 and as expected turned out to be a smashing success. Every year when October approaches, our PebbleCreek Golf Courses close down for the annual October fall over-seeding operations and our PCM9GA weekly events will be held at off campus locations as follows:

October 13: Falcon Dunes

October 20: Sundance

October 27: Coyote Lakes

November 3: Coldwater

Our current membership role is about 350 members and we highly urge new interested members to join our truly outstanding fun-loving group which welcomes golfers at all skill levels. The $50 annual cost includes dues for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting. Beginning October 1, new members may join for the same $50 membership fee with the added advantage of having their membership dues covered through the remainder of 2016 as well as all of year 2017.
