A soaking rainfall followed by above average temperatures in the upper 70s greeted the 584 players on 60 teams who anxiously awaited the start of the PebbleCreek Bocce Association’s Winter Season on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. The day before, on Monday, January 8, Statistician Carol Gwilt conducted a clinic for the 35 new players who signed up for winter competition.

“All of the snowbirds have returned and we are looking forward to a great season,” commented Mollie McErlean, the Association’s treasurer and team registrar.

President Cheryl Kasselmann and Mollie, who both have served on the Board of Directors for a total of six years, have agreed to stay on for another two years. Joining them on the slate of officers who were reelected to two-year terms at the Captains’ Meeting on Friday, January 5, are Vice President Robert Labenz, Secretary Gail Davidson, Statistician Carol Gwilt and Publicity Pat Milich.

On Sunday, January 7, the Association held its Annual Membership Meeting and Potluck. Awards were presented to the winning Fall Season teams, including the Grand Champions. The Tbirds captured the Night Champs title and the Hare and Hounds won the Day League title.

The Bocce Association Food Drive, headed by Don and Di Week, was still underway at the deadline for this issue of the PebbleCreek Post. Last year, this effort resulted in the collection of over 400 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Aqua Fria Food Bank. A full report on the result of the 2018 Food Drive will appear in the March edition of the PebbleCreek Post.
